China Pearl – An excellent white peach variety producing very large freestone fruit with excellent quality. China Pearl is a relatively recent NCSU variety release offering a very high chilling hour requirement of 1100 hours, making it one of the latest flowering commercial peach varieties available. This variety produces many flower buds; therefore, thinning may be needed to maintain fruit size. Fruit quality has been rated as outstanding for this variety. Zones 4-8. Grafted on Halford rootstock. Ripens August 28 to September 3

Desiree Peach This new yellow-fleshed, semi-freestone peach ripens approximately eight days before Sentry. The fruit is medium in size, highly colored, with excellent quality and few split pits. Developed at the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station at Rutgers University, Desiree® is an exciting new variety for the early season market. Grafted on Halford rootstock, needs 850 chill hours the tree is medium in vigor and resistant to bacterial spot.

Contender Free Stone– A hybrid of ‘Summercrest’ x ‘Redhaven’, released in 1987 by the North Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station. Trees produce non-showy blossoms. Harvest season begins Aug. 8 to Aug. 15. This is a very attractive yellow flesh variety with good size (2.5 to 3.0 inches in diameter). Seventy five to 90% of the surface is colored red. The flesh is light yellow and aromatic, and flavor is very good. The fruit is fairly round and the suture is slightly raised and soft. Fruit ripen uniformly. This variety produces many flower buds (thinning may be required), crops well most years and is moderately resistant to bacterial spot. Zones 4-8.

Souvenirs, the first fresh-market yellow-fleshed peach from the Arkansas breeding program. The program’s first fresh-market peach was releasedin 2000, but until Souvenirs, the program’s fresh-market peaches have been white-fleshed. Souvenirs ripens about July 6, Clark said, 105 days after bloom. It has low acidity and is semifreestone to freestone, depending on ripeness. It has exceptional skin color with 90 percent blush—the reddish color that consumers greatly desire.It also has a slow-melting flesh that remains firm longer on the tree, but ultimately melts in the mouth. All the new varieties are self-fertile.
